Reasons Why Pimples Should Not Be Pricked – Pricking Pimples

It’s common among teenagers to try to get rid of acne problems by pricking pimples. However, pricking zits is not actually helpful. Here’s why.
Dead skin cells, bacteria, and sebum are the things that you can find on a pimple and pricking pimples can cause the following unpleasant things to happen:
• The three things that a pimple contains will get into the hair follicles and when the follicle wall break, it will be easy for the infection to spread. Instead of getting rid of the pimples quickly, pricking them will only make the acne more severe. Pricking may also lead to other worse infections due to the transfer of bacteria with your own hands.
• The breakage of the follicle walls will make the body try to heal the wound from pricking which then leads to scarring. Simply put, you risk getting scars whenever you try to pop your pimples.
• Some people also try to prick other types of acne such as cysts and nodules. These are more dangerous as they are embedded deeper into the skin and pricking them can lead not only to scarring but also to bleeding and bruising. Cysts and nodules should only be removed by skincare experts and professionals.

However, if you really want to go ahead and pop your zits, here are some guidelines to prevent acne exacerbation:
• Wait for the pimple to become fully developed before you pop it. This will be more successful than when the zit has still not fully matured. To determine this, see if there’s pus with yellowish-white color below the surface of the pimple.
• Wash your face with warm water. This will make the skin softer and will also remove other types of bacteria that may infect the pricked pimple.
• Use a sterilized needle to gently poke the zit’s surface until the pus leaks out. Then, use a cotton pad to absorb the pus by gently pressing it around the zit or hold a tissue over it.
• After removing the pus, don’t pop the pimple anymore to avoid skin damage.
• To avoid any infection, use hydrogen peroxide to clean the wound after it’s been pricked.
